The inspiring music of Russell James Peck (1945-2009), an American composer in the symphonic field to both the classical and education/family repertoire, continues to delight audiences with dynamic, colorful performances by thousands of orchestras in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa, and has been performed by major orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Russell Peck was a cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan (1966), where he also received Master and Doctoral degrees in composition. His best known pieces include The Glory and the Grandeur percussion trio concerto, Harmonic Rhythm timpani concerto, The Thrill of the Orchestra narrated demonstration piece, and Signs of Life II for strings, but here, we offer you the full catalogue of Russell’s music: notable for melodic flow, engaging rhythm, rich harmonies, and an exceptionally accessible personal style combining the classical idiom with a recognizable influence of popular American musical language.
Russell’s family is proud to continue publishing and promoting Russell Peck’s Orchestral Works, Music for Winds, and Chamber Music, as an independent family business, and we hope to build on and expand awareness of the spirit of joy, energy and inclusiveness that his compositions offer musicians and audiences alike, around the world.
